FNB SAUVIGNON BLANC TOP 10 ENTRIES OPEN
Entries have opened for the 2016 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition. The Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group (SBIG) invites producers of this perennially popular variety to submit their rising stars by 31 August. Late entries will be accepted until 09 September at an increased fee. The competition catalogue and entry forms are available online at www.sauvignonblanc.com.
With Sauvignon Blanc plantings currently totalling 9 262.57 hectares – making it the fifth most widely planted cultivar in South Africa – the new SBIG chairman, JD Pretorius, anticipates tough rivalry for a coveted top 10 accolade this year.
Given this innovative culture of South African Sauvignon Blanc producers, it’s no surprise that the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group (SBIG) has partnered with the most innovative bank again to bring about the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition.
Stephan Claassen, FNB Business Provincial Head in the Western Cape says “FNB is proud to sponsor this competition which encourages creation of the best South African wines and showcases South Africa’s favourite Sauvignon Blanc producers. This platform allows producers to be recognized and rewarded for their innovation and excellence, enhancing their potential for growth. The importance of growth in the wine industry cannot be underestimated and it will depend on synergistic financial partnerships with banks that are able to offer expansion and finance solutions to producers.”
A panel of wine experts will put the top 10 contenders through a rigorous judging process at the Nederburg Auction Complex from 20-23 September. The much-anticipated 2016 top 10 will be unveiled during an awards luncheon at Nooitgedacht on 14 October.
